Sketch Model

Beginnings of my sketch model ( not to scale ).
Foam board A4 cut in half then stuck back together to form a base.
No colour added yet.
Obviously this is flipped on its side, as i cannot get it to turn around.

Technical drawing

Just a seshion in technial drawing. How to layout technical drawings on the paper and use the rules and measurements.
Top plan: looking down onto it
Side view: from the side
Front view: audience
(this drawing is not to a 1:25 scale)

Sketch design
Grey pebbled path, which Red Cap is standing on, want these pebbles to be lumpy and bumpy. Small flowers in grey along the edge of the pebbled path. Two big green square slides to emphasise the green bushiness. Large and small trees within the forest all green. Yellow light is sunlight. Red Cap will also be holding a basket ( Grey) with the contents of bottle of wine and two cup cakes.
Do not yet have a clear design or idea in my head or on paper for how i would like my wolf to appear. i know i want him to have big green eyes which look friendly, but have evil poking through. Definitely want him to be a dark grey colour, but i am struggling with a design using geometric shapes to make him look wolfy.
To the left is what i have come up with so far. The spikes defining his fur but with an evilness.

Red Cap: Herself

Shapes for her body: Sphere - Head, Rectangle - Body, Half a Sphere - Skirt and Triangles - Legs. She will wear red long knee high socks and a red cap which drapes over the body shapes. Have not yet decided on the material for her cap, but was thinking either a plastic rain mac look or red velvet, (both very different) am leaning towards the plastic mac and socks.

Red Cap: Flowers

Flowers, are simply made from a sphere for the flower head and pointed cone for the stem. ( picture laying on side, so the flower head to the left and stem to the right) The colour is grey for the flowers and they will lay along the edge of the path that that Red Cap is meant to stick to. they will only be seen when the bright sunlight (yellow) shines through the trees and lets say brings them to life.

Red Cap: Trees

Keeping my trees very simple, all one colour but different shades, green. Lighter greens for the leaves, which belong as half oval and square shapes, then having the trunks darker greens to give the effect of a tree trunk. trunks being cylinder shapes, consisting of three cylinders one large at the bottom then medium in middle and small at the top. I am going to have a minimum amount of trees, but going to have a square slide in board on either side of stage, painted in a block of green,( seen in a lot of Bauhaus stage design, i really like the simplicity of them)which will slide in and out. Trees will only be style all over my stage, Simple.

Cubism: Little Red Cap - mood board

Mood Board, consisting of all my ideas for my set design, showing design, colours and shapes.
As you can see the colours i have choose are minimal, but effective. ( Cubism style). I have used the colours on the main characters and props that i wanted to stand out and have the most attention.  Stuck to red only on Red Cap's Cape, used shades of green for the trees, grey for everything else. Grey will give the dark/dullness as i want it to appear in the first instance, just as in the Grimm tale, but u can still see the greeness of the forest. When Red Cap meets the Wolf (he will be a darker shade of grey with BIG green eyes) and hell tells her to see the forest in its beauty from the bright sunlight (enters/turns on a big yellow light) everything will brighten up and the flowers will become apparent and trees much brighter.

Cubism

Geometric shapes, the basis of cubism art!

Bauhaus Costume

just looking at the style of Bauhaus costumes he uses. use of shapes.
Colourful but simple shapes
use of wire in circular motion

Bauhaus

Bauhaus Stage

Looking at Stage set that Bauhaus has created. Again the use of simple shapes to make a dramatic effect. colour is very mute ( less intense). keeps to shades of one colour. tends to use a lot of square or rectangular screens on his sets.

Architecture

Use of light, Guggenheim Museum

This is just use of natural light/weather, but from this i can still see/ be a mood set.
The use of sunlight in this particular picture, makes the museum feel warm and very inviting/ interesting than usual. Building looks more gold and yellow.

But yet the picture to the right is obviously on a wet cold and rainy day, not very inviting. almost looks spooky in a way. Building itself looks very grey.

Architecture

Cubism: looking at different architecture which has used cubism as a big influence, within the structure of the buildings. How the use of geometric shapes have been used to form the building, also the use of light to create different mood/colour.
Focusing mainly on the Guggenheim, Jewish Museum in Bilbao City.
From the picture, i can see that the building is made up from simple geometric shapes (big part of cubism), they are very stiff structured shapes. Building is made form titanium and is meant to represent Fish scales. ( movement of the river) I love the simpleness of it, burt yet it creates such a dramatic effect. I would like to incorporate this in my set design some how.

The cubism movement is also continued inside the building.

Narrative and Genre

I am looking at The Grimm Fairy Tale "Little Red-Cap". Scene, in the forrest where little red cap meets the wolf and he persuades her to wander away from the path and into the depths of the forrest to pick flowers.
Have been looking in to different genre's such as Cubism, Horror (zombie) and Subculture. Mainly been looking at Cubism, Picasso's work (paintings), George Braque and Fernand Picabia.
looking at cubism trees as in my scene there will be numerous trees used, plus flowers.
